Home Sweet Home

After driving to southern Illinois for a family wedding (with a ROCKIN' reception), spending a week at my in-laws' house, driving to Birmingham AL to have dinner with my dad, sisters, and their hubbies, THEN driving through a most horrible thunderstorm/
wind event/torrential downpour . . . lordy, I'm glad to be home. I missed my little patch of heaven on earth!!!

Spring in the South

The wisteria has been blooming like crazy around here, and it's an incredible treat--either growing wild in bushes and trees, or cultivated by human hands. It only lasts a short time, but it's a time of the year I look forward to for its sheer beauty.

BREAKING NEWS - Egg Drop Postponed

Actual headline on the on-line version of the Picayune (Mississippi) Item. Where I live. Apparently the egg drop is a long-time big deal around these parts, and it's being postponed until Easter weekend. We've been getting some bad weather and what with the eggs being dropped out of an airplane, can't have the little kiddies get struck by lightning while they're pushing each other out of the way for plastic eggs. That technique is learned early at the Mardi Gras parades. Our Papa John's Pizza has a good suggestion:

I'm sure we humans would taste much better with a gut full of pepperoni, eh?

Ska Afar

(OMG, it's Friday the 13th!!!) Anyhoo--"ska afar" is how they would say "sky afire" down here in Mississippi. I took this picture just as the sun was going down recently--those are the trees across the street from our house. We used to have trees on OUR side of the road but mean ole Katrina knocked a good number of them down. At least now I can get better shots of gorgeous sunsets. I'm no photography whiz by any stretch of the imagination but every once in awhile I get something interesting. Now I'm just waiting for the wisteria to start its rampant grip on everything so I can capture some of that beautifulness. Apparently the wisteria god decided that he/she was going to appear in every single tree in the area EXCEPT ours. We're like the wisteria dead zone, but I guess that's ok since once the flowers are gone it's just a big twisty mass of bark. Until then, though, it's truly a sight to behold!
